Sing and Be Happy

Over the years, Sing and Be Happy has become my favorite song. You may sing it sometimes during your worship services at church...but do you really take the time to think about the words while you are singing? Here are the verses and the chorus....don't sing it in your mind....just read it. This song was written by Emory S. Peck, 1940.

If the skies above you are gray, You are feeling so blue,
If your cares and burdens seem great all the whole day through,
There's a silver lining that shines in the heavenly land,
Look by faith and see it my friend, Trust in His promises grand.

Often we are troubled and tried, Sick with sorrow and pain,
There are others living in sin blest with earthly gain,
Take new courage we cannot tell what the morrow may bring,
When the dark clouds vanish away then your heart truly can sing.

Oft we fail the see the rainbow up in heaven's fair sky,
When it seems the fortunes of earth frown and pass us by,
There are things we know that are worth more the silver and gold,
If we hope and trust Him each day, We shall have pleasure untold.

(Chorus)
Sing and you'll be happy today, Press along to the goal,
Trust in Him who leadeth the way, He is keeping your soul,
Let the world know where you belong, Look to Jesus and pray,
Lift your voice and praise Him in song, Sing and Be Happy Today!

This to was my song I loved to sing at my grandparents church. Some of my most cherished years were spent in the church singing that song with my grandmother. I had the cherished moments of living in a small town with my grandmother there for me always!! God Bless you all!!

I am singing this song for my grandfather's funeral tomorrow. We once sang it together as special music for their church service. You're right. It is a wonderful song.

I love this song! We sang it today, and I am so happy that I found the words on your blog. I have looked a long time for these. No matter what I am going through, I can't help but feel it'll be alright when I hear this song. Thanks and God bless you.

Fun song. Upbeat, positive. But "look to Jesus and pray" concerns me. John 16:23 clearly tells us that prays are to be directed to God the Father in the name (by the authority) of Jesus (God the Son). Some argue that it means to look to Jesus, but pray to God the Father. If this was the intent of Mr. Peck, I wish he'd worded it with less abmiguity, as it leads many to embrace the unscriptural practice of praying in opposition to John 16:23.

Oh what a wonderful song and tune that lifts the spirit. This song brings back fond memories of summer church camp. Thanks for all the postings, esp. all the original lyrics. Be happy today.

this song does it all for me. when i get ready for work and struggling, i sing it to keep me going. when i go on a walk (my private property) and i am pondering how to make next step in this crazy world, i sing it then too. i know the 1st and 3rd stanzas by heart. so does my sister. im soprano and she alto. we had a friend who was at the "end of her rope. life is too hard" i just starting singing it and my sister followed along and by the end of the song, our friend asked for help. TY Lord and ty for the creater of this song
